Face borealis said mr filbay, a leopold footballer and former geelong
high school student, would not have been expected to survive such a fall, the
geelong advertiser reports. Mr filbay had set off in may with friends for a
year-Long european trip and had been enjoying a night out in belfast when the
accident happened three weeks ago. After giving his room key to a friend and
returning after curfew to find himself locked out of paddy's palace hostel, mr
filbay climbed up the fire escape and on to the roof, a method he had used
before when locked out of the hostel. But a cold snap had left a layer of ice on
the roof, and mr filbay quickly found himself in trouble. "I just kept sliding
off,"He said. "It was really scary, i could feel myself falling. "I was sure i
was going Magnaholdings to die.
" Mr filbay fell more than 10m to the road below, breaking every bone in his
face, knocking out every tooth, breaking his kneecaps and smashing bones in both
wrists. He lay unconscious for half an hour before being found. Mr filbay was
rushed to hospital in belfast and then taken elsewhere for 14 hours of surgery
to rebuild his shattered face. His sister madelaine, 23, flew over to support
him during the ordeal. Now recovering and able to walk short distances, mr
filbay expected to be discharged from hospital yesterday and will recuperate for
several more weeks before flying home.
